Introduction week 1

Hello! I am starting my senior year here at the University of Oklahoma! I am from Eufaula, OK, which is known for having the largest man made lake. I liked to spend time on the lake with my friends during the summer. Usually on the weekends someone is taking their boat out so we all tag along for whoever's turn it is.

I have a German Shepherd named Bentley. I also have a five year old nephew that is my best friend, his name is Westyn.  He just started kindergarten this year. One of my favorite Westyn quotes is when my grandmother asked him if he played on the playground at recess (on his first day) and his response was “ I ran, jumped, climbed, ya know, I did all that hillbilly stuff.”

We are from a rural area in Eufaula and it is important for me to not forget where I came from even when I am away. Farming has been in my family for several generations and it is something I plan to pass on to my nephew, as well as my own children.

I am an avid sooner football fan.  I’ve been attending games with my parents since I was a child. It was a big deal for me to attend the University of Oklahoma because it was something that I had wanted for such a long time.

When I am not tied down with school work I like to travel home and spend time with my family. Family is very important to me, if you couldn’t tell. I also like to spend my free time at home in the woods or catching fish.

I am very inspired by my father. My dad builds houses for a living. I like to use that phrase instead of a carpenter because my dad does almost all of the work on his own, from frame work to cabinet building. If you can show him a picture he can make it. People say we have the same personality because we don’t stop working until the job is finished. To me, that is the biggest compliment I can receive because I know how hard he works.

I plan to finish out my senior year here at OU and go on to further my education to be an ultrasound tech.

  3. Hi Sara. Congrats on making it to senior year! I’m a senior too. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited. It’s really neat that you’re so close with your nephew. I’m close with my nieces and nephew as well, though they are a little older. All three of them are huge goofballs, but I couldn’t be any more proud of them. I always think that it is so interesting to hear about the loyalty people feel to the university. I chose OU for many reasons, but partially because my dad went here. For whatever reason OU got your loyalty, it’s always good to hear about someone achieving what they’ve always wanted.

  4. Sara, it's so great to hear all about you! We actually have a lot in common! I didn't grow up on a full farm but I do have some acreage and horses. Family is a huge part of my life, too! I think that is one of the most important things the hold on to because your family will always be there for you no matter what! My dad loves building houses too! He is an architectural engineer but build the house that I grew up in and he is still adding on and always making changes. It is fun to help out and I learned alot about building from him. He taught me how to lay hard wood floors and paint wall and I used to even create little houses out of the left over wood from the house. Have an awesome year and good luck with all your classes!

  5. What great pictures, Sara! Bentley is beautiful, and I am guessing that Westyn is a handful: it is so cool seeing a watermelon that looks almost as big as he is! Do you think he would want to have a starring role in a story you write for class or for your class project? People have done that before with their children, grandchildren... but never for a nephew. I bet he would make a great character to weave into some mythology and folklore adventures! You could even write them together... every writer needs a Muse after all. And a rambunctious five-year-old Muse might be the best kind! :-)

  7. First off I've got to say that your nephew is such a cutie! I'm the oldest of all kids on both sides of my family and the age range is from 5 months old to me at 20. I've always been the designated babysitter at family gatherings so I've got a special place in my heart for all of my cousins! I fully understand you on how important it was in coming here. My mom went to school here so I was born and raised a Sooner but I moved out of Oklahoma before grade school. I always admired from afar and knew my goal was to get back here as soon as I could!

  8. Hey Sara!
I know what you mean about coming to OU cause it is also a dream come true for me! I grew up watching OU football with my dad so it is amazing to be able to say that this is my school! I love your dog! I have a boxer who is literally my best friend haha so you could say that I am a dog person! Also your nephew is absolutely adorable! I'm also really close to my nephew who is 7! Though I'm not really an outdoorsy kind of person, it's really cool that you are interested in all that stuff!

  9. Hey Sara! I love your dog, he is such a freaking cutie! I love german shepherds and I have always been jealous that my aunt has one! Your nephew is also really cute; I have two twin nephews who are turning 8 this year, so I can understand him holding a special place in your heart! My nephews mean the world to me!

  10. Hi, Sara!

First, your dog is beautiful and your nephew is absolutely adorable! Second, your dad sounds awesome (and so do you!). Eufaula is filled with such beautiful country - you're so lucky to have grown up out there! I've been out to Lake Eufaula a few times and it was such a great experience. As a local - do you often go? Or is it boring to you by now? Color me curious :) To be able to grow your own food - that's so awesome! Thank you for sharing your story!

  11. Hey Sara!

Your dad sounds like a great guy. It's cool that people see the same amazing qualities in you that they see in him. Westyn looks like a lot of fun to be around! Little kids are so funny and full of life. Thanks for sharing about yourself. It was great to get to know you a little bit!

  12. Sara,

First of all we have two things in common! My mom's name is also Sara which is one of the reasons I picked your name, haha! I wanted to know what another Sara was all about. Then, I kept reading and saw what your dad does for a living. My dad owns a construction company so I have been around building things, painting, and tools all my life! Unfortunately for him I was really interested in it but my sister likes to take on projects with him during the summer and her spare time. I must say your nephew is so adorable! I love the things little kids say they are so innocent and funny. By the way, those watermelons looks delicious !!! Good luck to you! Thank you for sharing.

  13. Hello Sara,
If you don't mind my asking what is your major here at OU? By the way you have a really pretty dog. I have two chihuahua pugs, which we call chugs, and they are little ugly fat dogs, but they are hilarious to watch. I can see just how much you love your family and it is so great that Westyn is your best friend.

  14. Hi Sarah!
You remind me a lot of myself! I love my family just as much as you love yours and being with them are my favorite thing. I do not have any siblings, but I do have a cousin that is quite a bit younger than me and he s my absolute favorite person in the world, even if he is getting a little older and had the attitude of a teenage boy. My dad also builds houses, and can do just about anything you ask him to. OU football games have been apart of my life since I was a little girl as well. Crazy how much we are alike or have some of the same types of people in our lives. I will say I have never lived on a farm, and I have never been to Eufaula which is weird because I am from Oklahoma and thats where all my friends spend their summers. Anyways, it was nice to meet you!

  15. Hey Sarah!! I have no doubt you love your nephew because he is so stinkin cute! Let's be honest you could have worse problems than doing a job until it is done. That's a wonderful trait to have. I have no idea what people do when OU football isn't their life. I would have absolutely nothing to do. I might have gotten a little excited when I saw you had grown all those watermelons because those are hands down my favorite. Good luck with your studies!

  16. Your family sounds so nice! It is a wonderful thing, and seems like a rare thing these days, to have such tight family ties. Your nephew sounds adorable, and I liked how you said he is your best friend! That's cool that you like to fish and go out in the woods. Your family's home must be really cool if it's out in the woods like that! My grandpa has a house out in the country and it's reallly cool. It's surrounded by woods, and I love going out there.

  17. Hi there Sara!

Like you, family is very important to me as well. I love how you're so close to your family and your nephew. It's awesome that you are so connected to farming too. I always thought it was important to never lose who you are no matter where you go. Also, it is so cool that your dad builds houses! That seems like a lot of hard work so props to him. Finishing out my goals is really important to me as well. Sticking to something through the all of the ups and downs makes the end product so much better!

Good luck with everything, it was great meeting you!

  18. Your nephew is absolutely adorable! I really admire the wonderful connection you have to your family and roots. I love the Eufaula area and I have been going down there for years. My grandfather had a cabin up there and we used to visit often.

It also amazing that your family farms and your dad build houses. Talk about self-sufficient!

I wish you the best of luck with school and pursing a career as an ultrasound tech! Congrats on the upcoming graduation.

  19. Your nephew is adorable!! He looks so happy in both of those pictures. You seem like an awesome aunt. I too grew up in a small time and sometimes miss the small town charm. I like to go back every now and again. It is so cool that your dad is so talented. I admire your drive and I bet it takes you great places!

  20. Hi Sara,

Your collection of personal photos really adds a lot to your introduction. I am a huge animal lover, so by default I think your dog is absolutely adorable. We are both seniors! That is super exciting. Are you graduating in December or May? I will be graduating in May and I am so excited. I have no idea where Eufaula is, but I will have to google it. I'm interested in seeing what the largest man-made lake looks like. I hope your semester is going well! I look forward to reading your works.

  21. Hi Sarah!

What a small world, my family is from Eufaula! I never lived there but my mom grew up around there! My grandpa worked at the prison in McAlester, and my mom actually graduated from Crowder, but my grandparents have always lived right on the lake. I spend most of my holiday weekends up there tagging along on boat rides!
I am also in my senior year and cannot wait to be done! It has been a long time coming! Good luck with your final year of school! Maybe I will see at the lake sometime!

  22. Hi Sara! Nice to meet you. Spending time out on the lake like you are describing sounds like so much fun! It's great to see you are a football fan also. We should be in the playoffs in about a month! Looking forward to that :) Hope you have a great final year here at OU! And wish you luck for the future.

  24. Hello Sara! Oh, Bentley is absolutely adorable! He has those big puppy dog eyes and they just tug at my heart strings and your nephew is so cute! He reminds me a lot of my little brother when he was that age, very good memories. He has such a bright smile, it's really infectious. It's so wonderful that you're so close with your family and especially your nephew, that's so rare these days!

  25. Hello! I think it's so awesome how many people in this class have dogs! Bentley is definitely a gorgeous dog, and I know how you feel about sharing a bed with them!

Your nephew is adorable and hilarious! I love the hillbilly quote especially! I wonder who he got that from? I love all the pictures too!

  26. Hey it sounds like you've worked hard and are doing well! I am a senior as well (6th year) lol and have transferred a ton. I like your dog Bentley too! We have a big half husky half lab. At some point, the one type of dog I do want is a german shepherd. Anyway, hope all is going well and glad I got to chat a few things over to ya!

  27. I can’t believe I haven’t visited your page until now. It’s very nice to meet you. I’m a senior too and I can’t wait for it to be over. I really like your dog. I’ve always wanted a German Sheppard. I like the area you’re from. You’re in the farmland away from the city so its nice and quiet where you can fish but you also go to school here so you can experience the city life too. I hope you have a nice senior year.

  28. Hello, Sarah. It was nice to meet you. I grew up just across the big pong from you in Checotah. I was also raised in a family that has had land in our family. We mostly ranch instead of farm but I miss it a lot. I also have a dog. He is a lab but I missed him too much and decided to bring him to Norman with me. It was nice to meet you.

  29. I don't think I've ever been to Eufaula, but if it's anything like your glowing recommendations, it must be something to see! Your nephew sounds like a riot. Clever, honest kids always have such interesting ways of saying things. Congrats on making it all the way to your senior year and good luck with your future plans!

  30. Hi Sara! Hope your semester as a senior has gone well! Your dog Bentley is adorable :) Anyways, it is a good thing to never forget where you came from. I have never been to Eufala, and I did not know that there was a man made lake there! Anyways, nice to meet you, and good luck with your finals!

  31. Nice to meet you Sara. It must be nice to walk around that big lake. Bet you fished there a lot because I know I would. Bentley seems like a great dog to have. Your nephew is so adorable next to those watermelons. Family is very important no matter what. I’m going to go see mine this winter in Wisconsin. Good luck with finals and studying!
